While taxodium have the appearance of evergreens, they shed their needles every fall. A large ornamental tree for parks or large lawns. Good selection for growing in wet soils either in low spots or near water. Note: Chlorosis often occurs in an alkaline soil.

The common bald cypress is native to southern American swamps, bayous and rivers. It is primarily found in coastal areas from Maryland to Texas and in the lower Mississippi River Valley.
