Sassafras albidum- Shrubby when young, maturing to a dense, pyramidal crown
- Can spread by root suckers to form colonies
- Clusters of greenish-yellow flowers; dioecious, having separate male and female trees

- Native to Ontario and parts of North America. To Native Americans, sassafras oils were freely used in tonics as medical panaceas. Culinary uses have included: sassafras tea (bark), root beer flavouring (root oil) and a gumbo-thickening agent called filé (stem pith).
