This is an improved cultivar, more resistant to anthracnose and having a more uniform crown. Tolerant of urban environments and a variety of soil conditions, including high pH, this tree is a suitable specimen for a larger landscape, park or street tree. Its most notable attribute is its exfoliating bark, giving the trunk a mottled look.

Additional Notes

One helpful identifier to differentiate between Platanus occidentalis vs non-native Platanus is that only P. occidentalis holds its seed clusters singly. All the others hold theirs in twos or threes.
