This pine can be a loose, open grower, however, pinching the candles mid-spring will encourage a more compact form. Its extremely narrow form makes it ideal for confined landscape areas. As with most pines, this unusual plant grows best in a well-drained soil. It is intolerant of heavy air pollution such as ozone and sulphur dioxide. To improve looks and airflow, these plants would benefit from periodic 'combing' (use your fingers) to remove dead material.
