Growing Tips & Maintenace
- Dependable, very drought tolerant plant, self-seeding freely. Prune spent flowers back to promote fresh growth and contain seeding. Does best in full sun.
Additional Notes
- Native to Ontario and much of North America. Due to its high sulphur content, the foliage of chives is repulsive to insects. Farmers are known to plant chives as border plants or between rocks to protect their crops from pests. The flowers can be used as a garnish in culinary dishes. Chives do not lose their taste or texture when frozen. The juice from the leaves is used to fight fungal infections.
